THE LOCAL AREA
The gîtes (as well as our home) are located just outside a village called Chey on the D950 in the Deux-Sèvres Department in south-western France. Look here for information on how to get to the Pays Mellois...
The village has a small convenience shop, patisserie and restaurant/bar. Chenay (3 mins drive) also has a restaurant (Logis de France).

The nearest towns are Lezay (10 mins drive) and Melle (15 mins drive). Traditional French markets are held in both towns on separate days. There is a variety of restaurants, supermarkets (each town has one open on Sunday), banks with cash dispensers and post offices.

Both towns have tourist office supplying local information and details of attractions further afield e.g. Futuroscope and the Marais Poitevin. Look at these pages in the site of the Pays Mellois to learn more about these and other attractions and local events...

Both Melle and Lezay have open air swimming pools and Melle has an indoor pool as well. Be warned - both pools only allow swimming trunks for boys and men, no shorts!

The lake at Lambon with swimming, canoes and picnic area is 20 mins drive.
